Regional guide to Almeria - Almeria to Berja Almería enjoys the most stable temperatures in all Spain, with a steady 19ºC providing a warm subtropical climate. It also has the country’s longest stretch of coastline, with many secluded Mediterranean beaches, ruins and dramatic rock formations. Inland to Vera, Bédar, Sorbas and Huércal Overa, there are pretty mountain villages, cave complexes and wide desert-like plains. Excellent road and rail links exist to the national transport network, and all the main population centres are within an hour’s drive from Almeria airport, and just two from those of Alicante and Murcia. Whether your tastes run to wildlife watching in the countryside, walking in the Sierras, enjoying the beach and water sports facilities, or a relaxing game of golf on one of many courses – you can find it here. Almeria The pasha of Almeria's riviera like costa is the city itself. From ancient origins a conurbation located at the head of the bay encircled by the Poinente peninsula and Cabo de Gata has grown here. Now the wide promenade flanked with soft sandy beaches and the old city full of architectural treasures offer visitors a variety and cultural feel unrivalled outside of Barcelona. The bustling bar area just under the Alcazaba is a myriad of small boutique bars and tasteful restaurants waiting to be discovered. Almerimar Facing the western sunset with the sound of halyards ringing against a thousand mastheads there can really be no place quite like Almerimar to enjoy a chilled 'Tinto de Verano' whilst you take in the ambience of a place that feels almost undiscovered. Almost fifty bars and restaurants surround the inlets that form Almerimar Marina. Behind the ocean with it's first quality beachfront apartments, a flat links golf course offers residents a visitors a true Mediterranean playground. The Winter's here are warm and tranquil, the Summer's balmy and raunchy. Secret Spain awaits. Berja The town of Berja floats in a valley formed by a bowl of three major mountain ranges like a diamond embedded deep in a red granite fruit bowl. The deep blue sky and dry air, setting of it's majestic buildings in postcard framed galleries across the whole town. The location, only 10 minutes from the sea yet free from the waves of plastic sheeting that line the coastline has proved increasing popular with overseas buyers in recent years. Yet Berja is still bereft of the compulsory foreign bars and restaurants that normally follow such Ex pat communities. Only a matter of time one suspects.
